The second in the series.. I enjoyed the first a tad more but, still this was a light fast read. I gave it 3.5 stars and rounded up. The book had some twists and turns not expected. I look forward to the next. English DNF. Call me crazy but I believe this was too tame and the attraction barely sizzled. Three kiss scenes later and I'm still not feeling it? I'm out of here. English Loved this one! It's even better than the first with a great mystery (I love mysteries) a wonderful cast, and lots of romantic moments! Romance 2.5 🌟. It's OK. There's just so much happening and the end isn't tied up very neatly. There are still so many questions that are unanswered especially the most important one - Why was Lillian's mother trapped in that ridiculous wager?Why did she show up again and how was she going to thwart her cousin? How did her cousin and aunt gain from it? Why were they still facing monetary issues after selling off their countries secrets? Aren...

Sometimes its fun to reread books of authors you loved during childhood. While a simple story, I enjoyed reading this again. Beckman always managed to describe the time period of the story so well! Dutch; Flemish This book just has a special place in my heart <3 I love the time of the V.O.C. and this was just perfect. The characters were all so strong and their relationships so well developed, the romance was amazing. also, this was one of my first books by thea Beckham and this definitly made me a fan! Dutch; Flemish Beckman schrijft erg goed, maar ze staat vrij negatief tegenover het christendom. Wat me opvalt is dat elk christelijk persoon in haar boeken erg vervelend en bekrompen overkomt. Let er maar op: als het karakter overduidelijk serieus is over God, dan zijn ze irritant. Dutch; Flemish READ IN DUTCH Mijn eerste Thea Beckman, en zeker niet mijn laatste. Het was een begin van een lange reeks van haar boeken, die ik gelezen heb. Zo blijkt nu nog steeds dat zij de schrijfst...
